Druids

An older painting that I recently found and decided to finish it off. I love painting forests and trees, not easy...Some textures were used in the rocks ground element, everything else is painted inducing the fire.

Animal Logic Academy Masterclass

I had a great pleasure of teaching a Masterclass on 3d Matte Painting techniques at UTS Animal Logic Academy recently. It was fantastic to see students work and present fundamental tools for aspiring digital matte painters. We created a large environment using 2.5d projection techniques based on the bush fire themed project they are currently developing.

Painting practice, not far from Sydney Harbour

Outlaw King - Perth

One of the matte paintings I had a chance to work on during Outlaw King project. Fantastic plate to start with however presented some challenges. For one we had to remove all modern trees introduced to Scotland in recent times - those included all pines which covered pretty much 80% of the mountains to the left and right hand side in shot. On top of that Perth was added which included parts of rendered 3d assets as well custom made elements in Photoshop. I also had to create the mud road as well as 3d bridge visible in the foreground. In the second image I indicate areas I had to work with ( added in matte painting stage ). VFX sup - Dan Bethell

On the sad note after completion of this project Sydney branch of Method Studios has been shut down. It was a privilege to work with such amazing team of artists. I hope Outlaw King will meet expectations and show everyone what we were capable of!

'A Wrinkle In Time' concept

A concept I've done a while ago for 'A Wrinkle In Time'. This particular icy world was supposed to be featured much more in the film however that changed and only one shot remained in the final cut. We have spent a substantial amount of time exploring this look. Two slightly different grades attached here with some tweaks in the sky.

Niseko Video Edit

My passion for editing was always there. Exercising it when time allows. Here is a short film we shot with a friend in Niseko Ski Resort. What an amazing location and that deep powder!

I had the chance to work on some conceptual images of how the characters of film are drawn into the old video game.
Produced in Photoshop with use of some 3d generated particles elements.
Art direction and supervision: Glenn Melenhorst and David Nelson. The model in the concept is a friend from Iloura - Roy Malhi.
